Arts may or may not be fine. Anything, anywhere, anytime. It doesn't have to be "art" to be part of the Arts.
You'll know it when you see it...
I love CDs, and no analog "purist" has ever been able to convince that analog music sounds better than digital. Having said that, I REALLY miss the big, beautiful artwork of the old 12" vinyl records. Some if them were almost worthy of framing, especially if they were gate-fold sleeves. I'm going to post just a few of my favorites, and I'd like you to post links to some of your favorites too. Even if the artwork is only on a CD cover, if you like it then link it. Amazon.com, barnesandnoble.com, and most other online music retailers provide large images of CD covers, so look for them there if you if you don't know where to start. Also, it doesn't necessarily have to be the artwork on the cover, but anywhere in the enclosed materials that came with your record or CD.
This first one is iconic - Pink Floyd's "Wish You Were Here." So many ways to interpret it, and when you listen to the album you discover even more. Brilliant.

Another iconic image - "Whipped Cream & Other Delights" by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass. What can I say about this picture that hasn't already been said? Her name is Dolores Erickson, by the way.

Green Day - "American Idiot" A powerful statement about American militarism in the 21st century. I'm sure the use of black and red is no accident.

Now let's see some of yours.

We have an artist in our midst, my fellow sifters and sifterettes. I bet you didn't know that, mainly because most of you spend your sifting hours half shitfaced, barely able to see the upvote button, let alone click it. (Not that I'm complaining, mind you. If it weren't for the Sift's drunk demographic there would still be a "P" next to my screen name.)
Anyway, that artist's name is Monsieur Semence Pourri, but you can call him rottenseed. And today I'd like to share a mere sample of his oeuvres, so that we may all bask in his brilliance.

Hey All,
Recently, you might have noticed that I needed some help.
Schmawy, MrConrads, xxOverCastxx, and MGR came to bat.
I was hoping we could all contribute to this figure. It is a very important part of my talk, and it should be fun to do. So please check it out and if you can help jump.
One point of note, I may include the figure in a publication, if I do it needs to be in the .eps format.
Thanks everybody.
Nate

Young, beautiful people running about naked in mother nature, acting wild and free...
Unsure if I should sift this, so I'll just sift-TALK it!

From guardian.co.uk :
"The cinematic world was today celebrating the rediscovery of missing scenes from German director Fritz Lang's legendary silent film Metropolis - thought lost for 80 years, until they were found in the archive of a museum in Argentina."
Can´t wait to see the full length restored version.

Thanks,
Nate

"The Star Wars kid has gotten a lot of shit over the years, mainly because he's not a professional. He simply didn't have the training necessary to pull off that fight sequence. On the other hand, there are lots of professionals who do have the training and simply lack the means to wield it. I'm talking about people like Aragorn, Captain Jack Sparrow, and Westley. If somehow you could only put a lightsaber in these fearsome warriors hands...Ugh, blogging. What am I even talking about? Let's just be ourselves, you guys. I found a bunch of clips on YouTube where people took fight sequences from other movies and overlaid lightsabers on top of them using magic, and they are hilarious, and you're gonna love it.

Yes, you too can create your own priceless work of art, all without the mess of “real” painting. Click and drag the mouse to your own virtual canvas, flip, rotate, resize, and color to your heart’s content. Don’t forget to sign and save your creation!
Pictured above is my piece, with my kids as (unknowing!) subjects. Perhaps I’ll scan it and hang it in my living room...
Yesterday the influential great artist Robert Rauschenberg died of a heart attack. His heritage will live on.

A print of Banksy's "Morons" sold for £5.250 at Sotheby's. This could be the new definition of irony.

At the request of several sifters, here is a compilation of the Avatars so far, along with the posts that accompanied them. Thanks, everybody!

Friends, sifters, netizens -- lend me your ears.
The time has come for all good parties to aid in the promotion and publication of a fine and wonderful video -- a video which has failed not once but THREE TIMES to appear in the annals of siftdom.
It is a somewhat slower-paced and longer short film than much of the usual fare here, and yet I assure you that it is well worth spending some time to slow down and appreciate.
This short film won an Academy award, beating out such greats as Lifted, which currently stands at 80 votes here; and A Gentleman's Duel, which has 157 votes.
So I beseech you: relax, have a cup of tea, and enjoy The Danish Poet, the fruit of some of Denmark and Canada's finest talent.
Thank you.
